Learn MoreCity Year’s programming supports students, families, and staff to ensure students receive a high-quality education.
City Year is a joint Red Nose Day and Comcast NBCUniversal funded program that strengthens the elementary school to college journey through mentorship and educational support. This grantee partner has been making a tremendous positive impact in the community. City Year’s programming ensures it meets the needs of everyone involved – the students, the families, and the staff – so students are supported to the fullest in receiving a high-quality education.
City Year provides practical support such as direct aid to teachers and kids in the classroom during the school day, and after school programs with snacks and homework help for kids. Sara Ross, PS 83’s Community School Director says “...we’re providing a service that families actually need, and we’re meeting the needs that they have.” Addressing these needs keeps kids in school and prevents them from becoming barriers to education.
City Year also provides educational enrichment opportunities outside of the classroom. Most students wouldn’t have access to these types of opportunities, such as Broadway shows and other field trips, because of financial limitations. Activities like these are generally funded by donations.
Watch to see how City Year is changing the lives of students and families – and why it’s only possible thanks to your support.
Any educator will tell you that the past few years have been challenging for them – and more importantly, for the students and families they work to serve. For schools like PS 83 in Harlem, located in one of the most underserved areas of New York City, the challenges were compounded by the pandemic. The strain on limited resources was exacerbated.
Students from low-income backgrounds are seven times more likely to drop out of high school. Early intervention and setting kids up for educational success can help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. It’s thanks to the generous support of donors like you that Red Nose Day is able to help provide quality education and educational support to keep kids learning, growing, and thriving.
